What's new in the Vancouver Island Harp World!   Email Marilyn for more info about any of these events

World Harp Congress

This is the exciting, once-every-three-years event that we get to host in Vancouver July 2011! It's the Olympics of the harp world, and we're following Amsterdam, Dublin and Prague, so expect an amazing show. We're working away on the programming right now, and I cannot believe the amazing European harpists who are flocking to our side of the world. This is a once in a lifetime kind of thing, so make plans now. Dates and some details are here.

April Point Harp Retreat

We weren't able to get our first choice for dates this spring, but no mind - it will be wonderful and just a little earlier. May 16 - 18th, 2010

This workshop will be called "The Rhythmic Harp Retreat". Where does a sense of rhythm come from? how can I find mine if it's missing? We'll explore answers to these and other pulsing questions, and then look at a few styles of music where rhythm is the thing! Suitable for all levels, I mean to open this workshop to a few non-harpists as well. So if you have a partner or friend who might like to bring their instrument instead of a harp, get in touch with me and I'll see if it might work.

Registration isn't open yet, but will be in a few weeks, perhaps. Last year at least one person just made them take a registration before the brochure was published, so that might work as well if you want to get in for sure.

I've begun the work of getting sound files for Harpstart 1 and 2 up on this website. As Dr. Suzuki says, you can learn best when you have the music in your ears and mind. (Well, he didn't say it exactly like that, but that's one of the tenants of his famous music teaching method!) If you're using the books to learn to play the harp, it's a good resource. Listen.
